COP26 seeks to deliver measurable progress on mitigation, adaptation, and finance. Alongside this, non-state actors - including business and financial institutions - are being asked to join the Race to Zero and set their own long-term net zero targets and ambitious 2030 targets. Collaboration between governments, financial institutions and corporates will be key to delivering the transformations required. This event brought together perspectives from government, financial institutions and corporates to examine where we have got to now and what needs to happen beyond COP26 – not just to put us on track to halve global emissions by 2030, but also to help economies globally to build forward better following the pandemic, protect communities and nature, and build resilience to climate change. Sir Partha DasGupta. Frank Ramsey Professor Emeritus of Economics, University of Cambridge, has written an article entitled "Nature's Role in Sustainable Economic Development" for the issue of Philosophical Transactions B "Personal perspectives in the life sciences for the Royal Society's 350th anniversary". In this podcast Wendy Barnaby interviews Sir Partha about his article and how nature should be taken into account when looking at economic development.

Democracy Now for today, May 20th reports on the hundreds of farmworkers and their supporters who are in New York City ahead of Wendy's shareholder meeting to ask for improved working conditions for those who pick its tomatoes in the Fair Food campaign organized by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. CIW farmworker and organizer, Gerardo Reyes-Chavez talks about the campaign.  So far McDonald's, Subway, Burger King and Taco Bell have all joined the White House-recognized Social Responsibility Program, agreeing to pay an extra penny per pound of tomatoes to raise wages and only buy from fields where workers' rights are respected.
