Can you improve a neighbourhood without changing its population? Within the "Westwood Next Door" project, the M06 student group proposed interventions for the sustainable development of the Westwood-Highland Park neighbourhood, located in Seattle's periphery. Under the motto small measures for big changes, M06 reshaped the area taking into consideration the residents' needs and interests while at the same time avoiding the gentrification of the neighbourhood. Relevant features of their strategy were the promotion of sustainable thinking and community engagement as well as the promotion of sustainable means of transportation, the greening of central streetscapes, temporary uses of brownfields, and vacant buildings for the community life to thrive in the neighbourhood. It gives us all food for thought as to how we can learn to live more sustainably using nature's cycles as a model. Sophie Segal is an impact entrepreneur with a focus on customers. Curious and creative at heart, she is a changemaker, innovative thinker and engaging trainer who loves to spark the unexpected in people's minds. She co-founded Co-CREATE ImpACT to help companies engage their employees in sustainability and the circular economy by using play-based learning and immersive game workshops in an innovative and fun way! She also helps companies transitioning to circular business models to design customer experiences that resonate and convert. Sophie also and leads the Circular Economy Club in Reading, UK.
