The 2023 Green Growth Summit will bring together high-level Member State representatives from the Green Growth Group, the EU institutions, and business. The Summit will mark the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Green Growth Partnership (GGP). This high-level event will explore how trade and trade-related policies could be used to support decarbonisation, focusing specifically on Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM). Alternatives to CBAMs, such as the inclusion of climate and environmental conditions in trade agreements and the formation of ‘Carbon clubs’ are also discussed. The event, organised by the Brussels office of CISL, will centre on the launch of a new report ‘On the Borderline: The EU CBAM and its place in the world of trade’. The report presents an independent analysis that provides a systematic and thorough assessment of the opportunities and barriers for implementing CBAMs, and what factors could improve their feasibility. It contributes to the growing debate on the EU’s recent CBAM proposal, which has attracted much discussion and interest around the role of trade in climate policy and the impact of climate policy on trade relations. WINNIPEG, MARCH 30, 2017 — The world premiere of the film “Our Tomorrows, Today: Wahbung 1971” (Produced by MFNERC: Nicole Magne and David Robertson) took place at the Eckhardt Gramatte Hall at the University of Winnipeg. A number of witnesses to and writers of the original Wahbung 1971 document, commissioned and released by then Manitoba Indian Brotherhood Grand Chief Dave Courchene Sr. in 1971, were in the film or in attendance at the premiere, including some of the Women of Wahbung – Chief Jean Folster, Janet Fontaine, Verna Kirkness and Jocelyn Bruyere; and Dave Courchene Jr., son of the late Grand Chief Dave Courchene Sr. In the early 1970s, the First Nations people of Manitoba came together to reject Pierre Trudeau’s controversial White Paper written in 1969. From this historic movement came an influential position paper known as Wahbung, Our Tomorrows. This short documentary explores the history of Wahbung, Our Tomorrows, and shows how it was a catalyst for First Nations peoples’ right to self-determination.
