Dr. Krista Hiser is teaches at Kapiʻolani Community College and is currently serving as the Director of the Center for Sustainability Across the Curriculum for the University of Hawaii. Her research uses focus groups, interviews, and reflective writing to learn more about student and faculty perspectives on climate change and sustainability. To share their research findings, she and her colleague Matthew K. Lynch co-wrote the paper, Worry and Hope: What College Students Know, Think, Feel, and Do about Climate Change. It appears in the Journal for Community Engagement and Scholarship. This study is being replicated at universities in the USA and reveals how students are feeling about climate change and where they are learning about it. With this data, Kr. Hiser leads workshops to help faculty expand their teaching strategies in order to help students manage complex emotions related to our climate predicament. Dr. Hiser has published on community engagement, service-learning, organizational change, post-apocalyptic and cli-fi literature. She is also the author of Field Notes: Teaching Climate Change in Higher Education, a blog available through medium.com The Art House Sarah Jaquette Ray is a professor of environmental studies, a writer, and a mom. She doesn’t necessarily see herself as an artist. In taking on climate change though, she recognizes the essential role of the arts. On Earth Day 2020, in the midst of an urgent Coronavirus pandemic, she published a book that is helping people navigate their strong feelings about climate change. A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet, provides practical insights and proven techniques for keeping focused on pursuing solutions for a complicated and challenging topic. With warmth, humor, and expertise, Sarah Jaquette Ray will help you better know how to stay engaged without becoming overwhelmed. Host Peterson Toscano says, “Reading Sarah’s book, I saw how the concepts she covers are not just helpful for students in high school and college. They also are questions and issues artists who are engaged in climate work consider all time. For storytellers, Sarah suggests we adjust the lens of how we look at climate stories. Telling the stories that will have the most impact takes real work.” Good News Report Dr. Anthony Leiserowitz from Yale Climate Connections shares some good news in addressing a long history of injustice. He chats with Cate Mingoya of Groundwork USA, a network of environmental justice organizations. In order to fight inequality in their neighborhoods, some city residents are using maps to reveal what they have known for a long time. They show how racist housing policies of the past have left residents more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change today. He keeps hearing about the powerful smell of flood mud. This was the pungent odor throughout the Susquehanna Valley after Hurricane Agnes brought historic rainfalls and a massive flood which upended lives and reshaped towns and waterways. “It reminds me of the connection between smell and memory, and how quickly a memory can come back to you if you smell something in the present day,” Andrew tells podcast host, Peterson Toscano. "I like to think about that as a metaphor for the importance of history and the importance of moments like Hurricane Agnes. They’re always with us, and sometimes they don’t come to our immediate senses, but they can be triggered, and they can be brought up really quickly. I like to believe in the power of memory and history, to mine those experiences, to reflect on them, and recognize and regard them, so we that can walk today in the difficult moments, and get through them.” Andrew talks about his community-based research, the Agnes Flood Project. Starting in 2011, when Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives, until this March, Congress enacted hardly any major legislation outside of the tax law President Trump signed in 2017. In the same period, the Supreme Court dismantled much of America's campaign finance law, severely weakened the Voting Rights Act, permitted states to opt-out of the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion, weakened laws protecting against age discrimination and sexual and racial harassment, and held that every state must permit same-sex couples to marry. This powerful, unelected body, now controlled by six Republican presidential appointees, sat at the center of American political life, a trend that will likely continue, with profound impacts on the country's political system and civic life. On the 50th Anniversary of Wahbung: Our Tomorrows, the The Turtle Lodge and Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre - Mfnerc present: Wahbanang: The Resurgence of our People - Clearing the Path for Our Survival, which shares a path for the People back to our beginning, to lead us out of the darkness.

Included in the launch is a video presentation created by The Turtle Lodge International Centre of Indigenous Education and Wellness.

Wahbanang is authored by a respected group of Knowledge Keepers, Elders and Chiefs —members of the Anishinaabe, Ininiwak (Cree), and Dakota Nations, sharing knowledge from their Ancestors as the Original Peoples of Great Turtle Island and the Turtle Lodge Central House of Knowledge. Together, they sound an emergency warning and offer a blueprint forward for all peoples to stand with the Great Binding Laws of the Creator and Mother Earth.

In 1971, Manitoba’s First Nation leaders released WAHBUNG: Our Tomorrows (1971), published by the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood as their position paper in response to Trudeau’s White Paper. It continues to be an agenda for action that included First Nations’ inherent right to design and have full authority over their health, education, and child and family services systems, informed by First Nations worldviews, laws, and approaches.

In 2018, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Grand Chief Dumas passed tobacco to Elders and Knowledge Keepers at the Turtle Lodge to develop a position document for today.

Knowledge Keepers from the Anishinaabe, Dakota and Ininiwak Nations gathered numerous times at the Turtle Lodge in ceremony, and prepared this collective unified message for the people.
The root word of “Wahbung” is “Wahbanang” - the east, where the sun rises. It refers to “Going Back to the beginning” in Anishinaabemowin.

Kate is an economist focused on the rewriting of economics to make it fit for addressing this century's realities and challenges. She is the creator of the doughnut of social and planetary boundaries which, since being first published by Oxfam in 2012, has gained widespread international recognition and influence in reframing sustainable development, including shaping the United Nations' post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals. She is currently writing Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist, to be published by Random House in Spring 2016.

Kate is a senior visiting research associate and lecturer at Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute, and a senior associate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. She has presented doughnut economics widely – from the UN General Assembly to the Occupy Movement – and her writing has featured in The Guardian, The New Statesman, Resurgence, Nature Climate Change, and Wired. She has been named by The Guardian as "one of the top ten tweeters on economic transformation”.

Over the past two decades she was senior researcher at Oxfam, co-author of the UN Human Development Report, and a fellow of the Overseas Development Institute in Zanzibar. She holds a first class BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a MSc in Economics for Development, both from Oxford University.
