discussion on the advantages of investing, now, in a low carbon economy, a shift in thinking, and to start wit a establishing a price on carbon. In partnership with We Can Lead, BICEP ran the "Race for American Jobs: Clean Energy Leadership", a coast-to-coast virtual race to drive home the economic and job-creation benefits of national climate and energy legislation. The four-week campaign engaged business leaders across the country with events in Oregon, Colorado, Ohio and New Hampshire, before traveling to Washington on March 10. Each event featured a lively panel discussion with large consumer brands and local clean economy entrepreneurs.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, half of wetlands in the lower 48 states — an area about the size of Yellowstone — have disappeared since the 1780s. And those that remain are at high risk: In 2023 the U.S. Supreme Court stripped 50 years of federal protection from many of these precious areas, leaving them vulnerable to draining, filling, excavating, and other destructive processes.

Nearly 50% of threatened and endangered species use wetlands for breeding, nesting, feeding, and migration. More than 33% of them live only in wetlands. Losing these water-saturated ecosystems harms water quality, increases vulnerability to flood and climate change, and pushes thousands of animals and plants closer to extinction.ÂÂ

But not all endangered wetland species have designated critical habitat, even though the Endangered Species Act requires it — northern bog turtles, Florida Key deer, salt marsh harvest mice, Santa Cruz long-toed salamanders, and mountain sweet pitcher plants are just a few who desperately need their wetland homes protected.ÂÂ

This video highlights just a few of the species who need more protected critical habitat. Take action for giant garter snakes, mountain lions, and more: Tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect more critical habitat for wetland-dependent species.

I am passionate about climate change and environmental justice. I know that we cannot have conversation about climate change without taking into account how it disproportionately affects BIPOC. What I learned about power and privilege is knowing when you are taking up space and how to use your platform to invite voices that are often left out in the mainstream environmental movement. It is not just my voice and my story that matter. Youth have a lot to say about the future of their planet and I want to make sure I am sharing their message in an honest way and inviting them to the table. Because ultimately they are the future and the future of the planet is in our hands. We must act. Knowing that I get to share the stage and use my platform to highlight the voices of youth of color is what drives me to continue to teach environmental justice to the brilliant youth scholars. This video is about how we can invite youth of color to the larger conversation around climate change and environmental justice. Originally from Gary Indiana, a town with a history of environmental injustice. Cristal is first generation Mexican and loves nature! She is currently working on her doctorate in Education focusing on environmental racism and environmental injustice and its impact on students of color. As one of ten siblings who grew up harvesting the beautiful brown earth to feed not only their large family but also their hearts. Nature is medicina Environmental justice es en mi sangre. From the ancient Azteca days, Madre tierra days, the pre-Conquest days, our goddess tonantzin days, maker of moon and stars days, my ancestors worshiped her days. Developing an environmental justice curriculum for youth of color is not the only solution. More than 4 billion tons/year of plant-based crop and forest residues (e.g. biomass) are being burned. Some of this burning contributes to catastrophic wildfires. And yet, almost all these burned residues would otherwise have intrinsic economic values for conversion into fuels or chemicals. In this talk, I explore the apparent paradox between biomass disposal and utilization. I highlight the newest efforts in turning trash into cash, which could make biomass residue conversion more attractive economically, at the same time reducing the environmental and economic damages of biomass burning. Kevin Kung is currently the CTO of a biomass technology start-up Takachar, as well as a Cyclotron Road entrepreneurial fellow collaborating with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. from MIT, focusing on biofuels and renewable energy, and specializes in biomass and energy conversion systems, engineering design in resource-constrained settings, and waste-sector innovation. In 2015, he co-founded Safi Organics, a biochar fertilizer company that has grown to be financially profitable today, serving more than 3,500 farmers. Domination of and the destruction of the values of the land can be seen when our Indigenous Knowledge is ignored or not shared by all. If people are given a choice based on the reality of what happens to our world when we disregard for the systems that sustain us and what would be if we return to the ancient knowledge that sustained the people of this hemisphere for thousands of years.

Yvette Williams MBE from Justice4Grenfell shares her moving account of what she witnessed on the night of the fire at Grenfell Tower and how after years working behind the scenes, she was motivated to become a more vocal and visible community activist. Yvette is interviewed by Ben Bailey Smith an English rapper, comedian, actor, screenwriter, radio presenter and voiceover artist, who is also known as Doc Brown. Yvette has lived in North Kensington for over 30 years. She previously worked with the Mangrove Community Association and has served tenure as a Trustee for the Tabernacle Community Centre and the Pepper Pot Club (African Caribbean Elders Centre). She is also a founding member of Operation Black Vote – a national campaign encouraging BME communities to engage in the democratic process. She has worked with a number of campaigns including those for Stephen Lawrence and Frank Critchlow. Yvette has a professional background working in education and criminal justice. Both Yvette and her daughter witnessed the fire at Grenfell Tower, after being alerted by a family friend who was evacuated from one of the walkways.
