At its core, racism denies your humanity. At its core, sexism demeans and demands that you accept less than full person-hood. At the intersection of race and gender, there is little chance to be truly free. I didn’t realize that I had been doing the very thing I swore I would never do. I had gotten so good at presenting my pain, frustration, anger and hurt as a black woman to predominantly white audiences in conversations and every day life that I did not realize how exhausting it had become. So, I finally decided, I had had enough of polite conversation. I would speak my truth and declare as Beyonce had in Lemonade, “I Ain’t Sorry." Frances Cudjoe-Waters is the mother of three incredible boys and the wife of an amazing husband - all of them on the endangered list in 2017 America. After focusing on civil rights issues as a Harvard Law student two decades ago, she never thought she would see the reemergence of situations like Charlottesville, VA and the spree of killings of black bodies with repeated acquittals by white juries - something she'd only studied about in the 90's as history from the 1960's, but now lived again in the late 2010's. She is passionate, loved and loving. And somehow seeks ways to facilitate discussions between all types of people from all different places. And didn't realize until preparing for this talk, how much of a toll this always "even-ness" and dispassionate intellectualism can actually take as we all seek to just be human. Her family was recently featured by the Dallas Morning News with a profile of her family on the front page of the Sunday paper 2017. Anna Lappé is a widely respected author and educator, renowned for her work as a sustainable food advocate.  Named one of Time’s “eco” Who’s-Who, Anna is a founding principal of the Small Planet Institute and the Small Planet Fund and has for more than a decade been a key force in the growing international movement for sustainability and justice in the food chain.

HP had made a commitment to drive a circular economy business model. How can businesses adopt this model to reduce their carbon footprint and climate impact? Frances Edmonds BSc.(Hons), Dip. H&S, CRSP Head of Sustainable Impact, HP Canada In her role as head of Sustainable Impact, Frances Edmonds is responsible for driving business from sustainability leadership. Focusing on Canadian’s sustainable procurement practices Frances is working to change how Canada buys. She also oversees HP Canada’s full suite of corporate social responsibility programs including strategic partnerships with key nonprofit organizations and an industry leading volunteer program. Under Frances’s leadership, HP became the most sustainable technology company in Canada in 2018. From being a founder of WWF’s Living Planet @ Work and Living Planet @ Campus programs to her TEDx talk demonstrating the power of collaboration, Frances seeks new and innovative ways to leverage the power of HP to create meaningful change across Canada. Nearly 40 years ago, before daughter Anna was a twinkle in her eye, Frances Moore Lappé published Diet for a Small Planet. Today, the pair still stand firmly behind this book which started as a one-page handout and would become the foundation of Annas own life's work stressing that to understand world politics, we need first to understand food. Anna Lappé, one of Time's "Eco- Who's Who," argues that there's an unsettling connection between food production and global warming in her latest, Diet for a Hot Planet. The mother and daughter have traveled far and wide and conclude that "hunger is not caused by a scarcity of food but by a scarcity of democracy." They encourage us to recognize food as a powerful starting point for solving one of our planet's biggest problems.
