In 2014, Gus won a silver medal for Team USA at the inaugural slopestyle of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. At the 2018 Olympics, Gus made history by becoming the first openly gay man to compete for the U.S. in a Winter Olympics. In 2015, Gus came out on the cover of ESPN Magazine, becoming the first openly gay professional athlete in any action sport. Gus has also had cameos on “The Real O’Neals,” “Will & Grace,” and “Olympic Dreams,” and in 2019 landed a role on Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story: 1984.” He has also appeared on “The Late Show,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Conan,” “GMA,” “The Today Show,” “Larry King,” and moreGus also guest-judged on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Top Chef,” “Beat Bobby Flay,” and “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” and starred in Paramount’s film “80 for Brady."In 2022, Gus started the Worthy Foundation, to give back to the LGBTQ+ community and participated in the AIDS/LifeCycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 2019, raising $249,745 for the organization. He works with the Trevor Project, Happy Hippie Foundation, GLSEN, and The Humane Society International. Greg Louganis is considered one of the greatest divers in history. With a total of 5 Olympic medals, 5 World Championship titles, 6 Pan American titles and 47 national titles, his records remain unbroken. Greg is the only male to win gold medals on both 3 meter springboard and 10 meter platform in consecutive Olympic Games (1984, 1988). As the undisputed GOAT of mindset, Greg shares his knowledge and wisdom through his meditation and mindfulness course, as well as through his books: “How to Make the Podium” and “For the Life of Your Dog.” Today, as a coach, speaker, author, actor, activist and humanitarian he continues his tradition of excellence. He studies natural and human “fingerprints” in observed climate records. His early research contributed to the historic 1995 conclusion of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: “the balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate”. He served as lead author of a key chapter of that report. Since 1995, Ben has identified human fingerprints in atmospheric temperature and water vapor, ocean heat content, sea surface temperature in hurricane formation regions, and many other climate variables. Education Ben holds a doctorate in Climatology from the University of East Anglia, England. After completing his Ph.D. in 1987, he spent five years at the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany, where he worked on developing and applying climate fingerprint methods. Ben joined Lawrence Livermore in 1992. Other information Ben has received a number of awards for his research. These include a MacArthur Fellowship (1998), membership in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (2011), and the Procter Prize (2019). The most significant awards are the friendships he has made during his career. In addition to his research, he cares deeply about the communication of climate science to a wide range of audiences. He writes for the Scientific American blog and has appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers”. Together with Chip Duncan and Dr. Hernando Garzon, Ben is a member of “The Three Tenors of Climate Change”. The Tenors are devoted to the task of improving public understanding of the science and impacts of human-caused climate change. In his spare time, Ben is an avid rock-climber and mountaineer.

Her father urged her to get out, saying “There is nothing for you here, pet.” Hill went on to study in Moscow and at Harvard and served under three United States presidents. But in both Russia and the United States, she saw troubling reflections of her hometown and similar populist impulses. Her new book, There Is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century, draws on her own journey out of poverty and her unique perspective as a policymaker to warn that America is on the brink of socioeconomic collapse and an authoritarian swing that could rival modern Russia. As scientists, we’ve long studied climate change, and sought to understand its causes. Now, we must take the next step and seek out and implement solutions. As a technologist, I believe there is great potential for technology to make a major difference. New innovations can slow the impacts of warming, whether through stopping deforestation, preserving biodiversity, or ensuring there’s enough food to go around and food is not wasted. But there’s also opportunity to address some of the underlying causes and even begin to reverse—the damage we’ve done to our climate and our planet. The call to action is this: Instead of aiming to limit global warming temperature increase by 1 degree Celsius, we have to think about what we’d need to do to reduce temperatures by 1 degree Celsius. This is a vital aspect of Operation Earth. Daniela Rus is the Andrew (1956) and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. Rus’s research interests are in robotics, mobile computing, and data science. Rus is a Class of 2002 MacArthur Fellow, a fellow of ACM, AAAI and IEEE, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy for Arts and Science. She earned her PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
