Brandolini’s Law (aka, The Bullshit Asymmetry Principle) states that the amount of effort required to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude greater than the effort needed to produce it. Right now, the amount of bullshit flooding the zone is off the charts. It’s not only impossible to keep up with the daily deluge of dismay due to the dismantling democracy, it’s also disheartening and deleterious to do so. This month on Living Between Worlds, we explored a different approach. The poly/perma/meta-crisis is not a problem or set of problems to be solved. In fact, as Amory Lovins observes, "the cause of most problems is solutions,") and our interlocking set of mega-messes are only be made worse if we approach them with a traditional problem/solution mindset. To quote Ronald Heifetz, we are facing an “adaptive challenge.” The defining characteristic of adaptive challenges is that we need to change our modes of perceiving and thinking in order to engage effectively with them. So we welcomed Chauncey Bell — author of Mobilize!
