A volte per trovare soluzioni non serve cercare lontano, ma basta guardare a ciò che ci circonda: la natura. Come diceva Albert Einstein “Ogni cosa che puoi immaginare, la natura l’ha già creata”.​ ​Ed in effetti molto spesso è proprio così. Seguire le modalità naturali nel non disperdere risorse, nello sfruttare l’energia, nel recuperare il corso e il ciclo delle acque, solo per fare alcuni esempi, rappresenta una logica che sfrutta applicazioni che considerano sistemi già sperimentati, proprio dalla natura, da circa 4.5 miliardi di anni. Essa nasconde un’immensa ricchezza e complessità che la scienza studia e copia per implementare tecnologie. Piero Manzoni è nato a Bergamo l’8 ottobre 1962, ha lavorato in precedenza nel Gruppo Schneider (ex Marlin Gerin), e dal 1994 al 2001 ha ricoperto diverse posizioni dirigenziali apicali all’interno del Gruppo ABB, di Siemens Italia ed ha ricoperto la carica di Amministratore Delegato di Atel Energia SpA (oggi Alpiq). E’ stato Amministratore Delegato di Falck Renewables SpA e Falck Energy SpA, Amministratore Delegato e Direttore Generale di Falck SpA, Presidente di Falck Renewables Wind Ltd. E’ attualmente Amministratore Delegato di Neorurale SpA, Presidente di MenoEnergia e Presidente di Acqua&Sole. Predictive algorithms may help us shop, discover new music or literature, but do they belong in the courthouse? Dartmouth professor Dr. Hany Farid reverse engineers the inherent dangers and potential biases of recommendations engines built to mete out justice in today's criminal justice system. The co-founder and CTO of Fourandsix Technologies, an image authentication and forensics company, Hany Farid works to advance the field of digital forensics. Hany said, “For the past decade I have been working on technology and policy that will find a balance between an open and free Internet while reining in online abuses. With approximately a billion Facebook uploads per day and 400 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute, this task is technically and logistically complicated but also, I believe, critical to the long-term health of our online communities.” Hany is the Albert Bradley 1915 Third Century Professor and Chair of Computer Science at Dartmouth. In recent years, the emergence of edge computing has reduced the costs associated with transferring data to centralized cloud servers by relocating data processing to edge devices placed within the local network. Edge computing is a promising solution for distributed applications requiring privacy and real-time data processing capability with minimal delays. However, utilizing the full potential of this paradigm is not feasible without the capabilities to analyse complex data and generate new content. This talk investigated the challenges of deploying generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the edge to enhance privacy and efficiently use network and computational resources. By considering the limitations of edge environments and exploring current solutions for optimizing AI models on resource-limited devices, this talk addressed the challenges of implementing efficient distributed learning for generative AI applications, such as Large Language Models. This may cause irreversible catastrophic climate change and pollution responsible for one among six deaths. Extreme light applied to nuclear energy could open a new path to energy production. It could activate materials such as thorium or boron allowing abundant energy production free of waste and toxic radiation. Gérard Albert Mourou is a French physicist who has done many researchs in the domains of electric fields and lasers. He is the co-inventor of a laser amplification technique universally used today and for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018. This invention will allow him to create refractive femtosecond surgery of the eye and cataract used on more than one million patients per year. Albert-László Barabási, a network scientist, believes that understanding the underlying structure and relationships of complex systems is crucial. Barabási’s research has challenged the notion of random connections and led to the discovery of a more accurate representation of how these systems are organized. Barabási’s exploration began with the vast internet. Surprisingly, he found that the intricate web of connections did not follow random patterns but instead followed a power load distribution. He named these networks “scale-free networks.” Barabási’s groundbreaking work reveals that new connections in our networks tend to form with already well-connected elements. Scale-free networks exist in various complex systems, such as cellular interactions and social networks. Shneel combines bio-research and architecture to design ‘living spaces that blur the lines between natural and concrete jungles. She also proposes a way to empower small-scale artisan communities to adapt futuristic solutions, through economical and easily available cultural techniques - thus creating a sustainable future city. Shneel Malik is a licensed Architect and an interdisciplinary Biodesign researcher. Currently pursuing her PhD Research as part of the Bio-Integrated Design (Bio-ID) Lab at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. She investigates the design and fabrication of large-scale photosynthetic membranes for applications within Architecture.
