Digital transformation is largely driven by industry players. Private companies are also at the forefront of innovation and technology development, as well as the adaptation of digital technologies in business processes and the development of new business models. The demand for a digitally skilled workforce is high, not only in the ICT industry but also in other economic sectors. This session will give the voice to industry representatives to discuss the core skills required to foster digital transformation, look at prospective growth industry sectors and related skills priorities. They will also share examples of how companies adjust to the rapid technological changes through effective skilling, re-skilling and upskilling programmes, as well as talent acquisition. Another objective of the session is to shed light on market needs related to digital transformation, which will help policy makers and training institutions to adjust their digital skills programmes and strategies. The world’s native grasslands are unequivocally imperiled, along with the birds and ecosystem services dependent on healthy native grasslands, wetlands and soils. In his TEDxFargo talk, Marshall shares the reality of how our marketplace decision can help farmers and ranchers conserve grasslands through regenerative grazing, and encourages people to seek out foods that are better for you and better for the land, thus becoming a regeneration, and making every day, our own Earth Day. Marshall Johnson is the Executive Director of Audubon Dakota and the Vice-President of the National Audubon Society. For the past decade, his team has built rural and urban community-focused habitat and ecosystem programs. His work in the Dakotas brings farmers and ranchers together with grasslands, herds, and birds into win-win alignment. Audubon's radical, market-based Conservation Ranching Program now enrolls more than 2,000,000 acres across 60 ranches. Under his leadership, Audubon Dakota’s Urban Woods and Prairie Initiative manages the largest urban conservation program in the Northern Great Plains. Throughout the years, Dr. Damle has treated countless patients suffering from the health consequences of climate change. These illnesses, ranging from tick-borne illness and allergies to asthma and waterborne illness, are not uncommon or unique but have been occurring with increasing frequency over the past several years and disproportionately affect particular communities. Dr. Damle is the past president of the American College of Physicians (the largest specialty organization in the U.S.), Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Founding Partner of South County Internal Medicine in Wakefield Rhode Island. He was a co-author on a seminal position paper of the American College of Physicians in 2015 and has for the past five years has been speaking to both professional and lay audiences around the world on the Human Health Effects of Climate Change. He is a founding member of the Medical Societies Consortium on Climate Change and sits on the Board of Advisors. He has advocated for mitigation of factors leading to climate change and their adverse effects on health to the House of Representatives and the Senate and locally with the Rhode Island Department of Health. Mr. Irfan Maierdan, Master Candidate of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presented A New Idea for Waste Disposal at the C+NbS annual meeting 2020. Invited by the United Nations, China, co-leads the NbS coalition initiated in September 2019, together with New Zealand. In order to shape and promote the concept, ICCSD set up the C+NbS platform, receiving support from TNC, aimed at multi-stakeholders collective wisdom to contribute China’s solutions to global NbS discussion. ICCSD is a climate-focused think-do tank founded in October 2017. It’s inaugural president, Mr. XIE Zhenhua, is China’s Special Advisor on Climate. ICCSD is an open and synergetic platform for interdisciplinary research, talent training and policy dialogues. It aims to provide solutions to global climate change and sustainability challenges, and to propose coordinated goals, strategies, pathways, and policies to decision-makers in China. ICCSD currently serves as the inaugural Secretariat of Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC). Oceana released a report showing that the illegal seafood trade, fueled in part by U.S. demand, is hurting local fishing communities around the world. Oceana says this demonstrates the need to expand traceability and transparency requirements for all seafood imports. The United States is the world’s largest seafood importing country, yet around 60% of imported seafood products are not covered by the U.S. Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP), which requires catch documentation and traceability requirements for some imports. Currently, the program only applies to 13 species and species groups at risk of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and seafood fraud. The United States imported an estimated $2.4 billion worth of seafood derived from IUU fishing in 2019 alone. The United States’ high demand for seafood combined with SIMP’s limitations allow seafood sourced from illegal activity to flood the U.S. market, driving economic and ecological loss around the world. In the report, Oceana highlights four examples of seafood entering the U.S. that are not covered by SIMP and are potentially sourced from the illegal seafood trade, which threatens fishing communities and jeopardizes ocean health. Oceana is calling on President Biden to expand SIMP to include all imported seafood and implement traceability from net to plate.

In the lead up to COP26, CLG UK, who coordinate the BGA, has worked with other members of the BGA to increase political and business ambition towards the UK’s net zero target. This session explores the challenges and opportunities of shifting the whole of the economy to meet the UK’s net zero by 2050 target – what action is being supported by government and the UK’s five largest business groups.
