Because, especially in light of the climate crisis, we may soon find them falling short of our expectations. Introduced to the world of environmental advocacy in middle school, Jacob has spent the past six years working with environmental nonprofits and his school community to increase awareness and action on environmental issues. He hopes to work alongside his peers to create a better and more just world for all while redefining what exactly it means to be an advocate in the midst of an ever-changing world. Farmers Brandon Mazur and Stephanie Moore met while attending Pacific University at the school garden and have been farming side by side ever since. They formed Good Natured Gardens, a small scale organic farm located on Sauvie Island about 15 minutes from Portland OR. In this video Brandon talks about the importance of small farms and what the next generation of farmers of farmers need in terms of community support.

Both Brandon and Stephanie are dedicated to the production of clean, fair and fresh vegetables and herbs. By cultivating the land in a positive way and helping others throughout the community to grow their own gardens, they hope to inspire creative, just and tasty ideas for the present and the future.

Thibault discussed his urban renewal work in Baltimore — redeveloping historic buildings as affordable housing and office space for nonprofits — and illuminated some of his personal journey, which began with him using basketball to bring together children on different sides of racial and religious conflicts in South Africa, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, and in the Middle East. Since 1960, Jane Goodall's name has been synonymous with the study of wild chimpanzees and later with conservation and advocacy. And in more recent years, for a campaign to spread a message about the importance of hope. Throughout her 89 years, the experiences that Jane has had and the story she tells about those experiences has been central to the person we think of when we hear the name Jane. Her journey of scientific curiosity and understanding began at an early age.

In this interview of Dispatches from The Well, Kmele Foster sat down with Jane Goodall to discuss the significance that stories hold in her life. She shares one of her favorite stories, one of herself at age four, when she watched a chicken walk into a henhouse in preparation to lay an egg. Jane followed the hen into the henhouse and waited hours for the egg to arrive, much to her family's chagrin, who assumed her missing. "And I love that story," Jane explains, "because isn't it the making of a little scientist? Asking questions, not getting the right answer, deciding to find out for yourself, making a mistake, not giving up, and learning patience."
