An interview with Jill Savery the Head of Sustainability for the America's Cup Event Authority at the 34th America's Cup at the finals held in San Francisco, September 2013. Ms. Savery talks about how sustainability was embedded into all the roles at this major sporting event from power and fuel to public transportation and partnering with organizations such as Sailors For the Sea, the official Clean Regattas partner, and with Offsetters, the Official Carbon Credit Supplier and their Great Bear Forest Carbon Project.

He has shared his views at MIT, Stanford, BBC, the European Parliament, the U.S. State Department, and other venues. He is the singularity expert at Singularity University and advises Blockchain Capital. Fadi Elsalameen, who was born in Hebron, is a critic of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority and has received death threats for his pro-democracy and anti-corruption work. Everything we were taught to believe about crime, justice, race, and gender needs to be criticized, says Marlon Peterson: We need to recenter humanity in accountability measures; we must allow room for various identities in criminal justice discourse. Formerly incarcerated author and activist Marlon Peterson is one of the many vanguards in changing the world we live in, and he documents it all in his new memoir Bird Uncaged. Born and raised by Trinidadian parents in Brooklyn, NY, Peterson spent his childhood adjacent to ongoing city violence while simultaneously preaching the good word alongside his father, a devout Jehovah's Witness. His parents immigrated to the United States to achieve the long-desired American Dream, and Peterson too believed it was possible. But in the aftermath of physical and sexual trauma, Peterson made a series of choices that led to his participation in a robbery that resulted in two murders, granting him 10 years in prison at the age of 19. Spending his twenties incarcerated, Peterson completed his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice with Honors and immersed himself in anti-violence activism, education and prison abolition. In Bird Uncaged, Peterson exposes the brutality of incarceration and the hollowness of the American Dream. He encourages us all to reveal and break from the many cages — both physical and metaphorical — created and maintained by American society. Join world-renowned researcher Dr. Alberto Burquez for a free presentation on giant columnar cacti, including Arizona's iconic saguaros. There are over 100 species of columnar cacti found throughout Central and South America, the largest and greatest variety of which are found in Mexico. Just three species grow natively as far north as Arizona – organ pipe cacti, senitas, and of course, the beloved saguaros. In this presentation, columnar cactus ecologist Dr. Alberto Burquez will detail his research on the evolutionary history and ecology of these massive charismatic plants, with special focus on the saguaros. He will explain their adaptations to life in the Sonoran Desert, their taxonomic relationships, how their range has changed over time, and the effects climate change will have on them. Alberto Búrquez, Ph.D., is a researcher at the Instituto de Ecología at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He is a co-author (with David Yetman) of The Saguaro Cactus: A Natural History and Mexico’s Valleys of Cuicatlán and Tehuacán: From Deserts to Clouds. His scientific papers on ecology, evolutionary biology, and ethnoecology have been cited over 8,000 times.
