Winners of the WSIS Prizes, recognizing innovative technological approaches to support sustainable development, were announced on 28 May 2024 at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum High-Level Event 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. Overall, projects from 18 countries were presented with WSIS Prizes top honours, showcasing leading efforts to bridge the digital divide, foster digital inclusion, and drive socio-economic progress on a global scale. “This year's WSIS Prizes demonstrate the innovation and energy that exist to find technological solutions to some of the globe's biggest challenges," said ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. “These are the creative contributions that the world needs in our effort to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals." "myGov" platform is a pioneering government concept that seamlessly integrates citizens, state entities, and businesses onto a unified electronic service platform. This innovative system aims to provide a comprehensive array of cutting-edge digital services, fostering collaboration and efficiency. Through the "myGov" portal, citizens gain access to information provided by government agencies, enabling them to engage with services electronically, acquire e-documents, verify the accuracy of their information, and seamlessly manage the process of sharing their data with other institutions. Climate change is a pervasive and global challenge - can modest actions ever make a really big difference? Sometimes they do. A single teenager protesting, a simple change in the rules, or a simple but novel idea can be amplified with huge global impact. Using concepts previously applied to the weather, a team at Oxford is looking at runaway change, snowball effects and tipping points in human systems, searching for "sensitive intervention points" that might accelerate the transition to a post-carbon world. Cameron Hepburn is Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of Oxford, and Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. He also serves as the Director of the Economics of Sustainability Programme, based at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School. Cameron has published widely on energy, resources and environmental challenges across disciplines including engineering, biology, philosophy, economics, public policy and law, drawing on degrees in law and engineering (Melbourne University) and masters and doctorate in economics (Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar). He has co-founded three successful businesses and provides advice on energy and environmental policy to government ministers (e.g. China, India, UK and Australia) and international institutions (e.g. OECD, UN).
