At its core, racism denies your humanity. At its core, sexism demeans and demands that you accept less than full person-hood. At the intersection of race and gender, there is little chance to be truly free. I didn’t realize that I had been doing the very thing I swore I would never do. I had gotten so good at presenting my pain, frustration, anger and hurt as a black woman to predominantly white audiences in conversations and every day life that I did not realize how exhausting it had become. So, I finally decided, I had had enough of polite conversation. I would speak my truth and declare as Beyonce had in Lemonade, “I Ain’t Sorry." Frances Cudjoe-Waters is the mother of three incredible boys and the wife of an amazing husband - all of them on the endangered list in 2017 America. After focusing on civil rights issues as a Harvard Law student two decades ago, she never thought she would see the reemergence of situations like Charlottesville, VA and the spree of killings of black bodies with repeated acquittals by white juries - something she'd only studied about in the 90's as history from the 1960's, but now lived again in the late 2010's. She is passionate, loved and loving. And somehow seeks ways to facilitate discussions between all types of people from all different places. And didn't realize until preparing for this talk, how much of a toll this always "even-ness" and dispassionate intellectualism can actually take as we all seek to just be human. Her family was recently featured by the Dallas Morning News with a profile of her family on the front page of the Sunday paper 2017. As with many aspects of American life, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted BIPOC communities. For Black businesses, this meant closing their doors and for Black workers, either being laid off or made to work in unsafe conditions. In a system where Black workers are proportionally overrepresented in low-wage work and sharply underrepresented in executive positions, this negative impact is exacerbated. However discouraging this reality is, it serves as a call to action to close the wide, possibly widening, racial gap. At INFORUM, a panel of experts on the economic state of Black America will provide insight on what a path to equal and just recovery looks like, expanding upon research by McKinsey & Company. Further, juxtaposing the current reality with the prosperity offered by a better future, they will drive home the need to make change, and do so quickly. Dr. Jomar Rabajante talks about the concepts of the Black Swan and the Red Queen in the field of science. He reminded us that in facing tragedies and disasters, there is a need to assess the root cause, decide based on evidence and data, map scenarios, and invest in knowledge to minimize the impact of the Black Swan and the Red Queen. Dr. Rabjanate is a Professor and UP Scientist at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics, University of the Philippines Los Baños; and an affiliate faculty member of the Faculty of Education, UP Open University. He was one of the proponents and co-chair of the first and only PhD Applied Mathematics program in the Philippines. As part of his advocacy in quantitative sciences, Dr. Jomar Rabajante created education models for DOST-SEI STEM activities, and was interviewed by various news agencies. He is also a reviewer of several international and local journals and grants. Dr. Rabajante obtained his Doctor of Science degree in Mathematical and Systems Engineering from Shizuoka University Japan; M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Diliman; and B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Co-founder of KonsciousKontraktors Ink and CEO of Ti Ayiti Preparedness And Relief Institution (TAPARI) A resident of Overtown and as such, has experienced Miami’s climate justice issues first hand. Because of this, she was inspired to co-found the Black Butterfly Collective - an environmental justice and wellness project that educates and supports Black women in the fight against climate change. Linda Neale of the Earth & Spirit Council and author of the book, Power of Ceremony responds to a question from the audience at the opening session of the EarthDay Conference 2012 co-sponsored by the Council and Portland Community College (PCC)/Sylvania Campus.  She is joined in the response by Ilarion (Larry) Merculieff who was born and raised with a traditional upbringing on the Pribilof Islands of the Bering Sea. His traditional name, Kuuyux, was given to him when he was four and means extension of ancient knowledge into modern times.
