Because climate change is already having devastating effects on both human and natural communities. Climate change is among the greatest threats to biodiversity on our planet. Triggered by our warming climate, extreme weather events – like intense heat waves, strong storms and prolonged droughts – are all on the rise, taking human and wildlife lives each year, and costing billions of dollars in damage. Habitats around the world are beginning to shift, shrink, melt and even disappear entirely due to climate change. Oceans are changing rapidly with higher temperatures and more acidic conditions affecting migration patterns, breeding, food sources and shelter for marine species. Rapid warming and melting ice in the Arctic could be devastating for the animals that depend on it - such as polar bear, walrus, seals, whales, and seabirds. Species like moose, pika and desert tortoise are also facing increased extreme heat and other threats to their survival. And the human costs are huge as well. In 2020 alone, the U.S. suffered 22 weather and climate disasters that cost over $1 billion each. We must act quickly to expand renewable energy and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to keep the planet from warming any more. But since the effects of climate change are already here now and already impacting wildlife and habitat we must also use the best available science to understand and reduce the specific threats that wildlife and ecosystems are expected to face. Defenders is: 1. Developing and implementing adaptive conservation and management plans 2. We're advocating on Capitol Hill for increased funding for programs combating climate change 3. In partnership with The Turtle Lodge International Centre for Indigenous Education and Wellness in Sagkeeng First Nation and IG Wealth Management, Manitoba 150 is honoured to present a series of short animated films on the Seven Sacred Laws. Isarithmic maps are essentially topographic or contour maps, wherein a third variable is represented in two dimensions by color, or by contour lines, indicating gradations. I had never seen such a map depicting political data — certainly not election returns, and thus sought to create them.The isarithmic depiction does an excellent job of highlighting several broad patterns in modern U.S. political history. 

This animated interpretation accentuates certain phenomena: the breadth and duration of support for Roosevelt, the shift from a Democratic to a Republican South, the move from an ostensibly east-west division to the contemporary coasts-versus-heartland division, and the stability of the latter.

More broadly, this video is a reminder that what constitutes “politics as usual” is always in flux, shifting sometimes abruptly. The landscape of American politics is constantly evolving,  as members of the two great parties battle for electoral supremacy.

Dal and Mike of Trash Isles explain how they created a whole new country in order to tackle the plastic pollution problem, how this country was recognized by the United Nations and what can we all do when it comes to the environmental problems that we have been facing. Trash Isles was one of the most awarded campaigns of 2018. Dal and Mike worked in agencies in New Zealand and Portugal and for the last 8 years they have been working at AMV BBDO, London, where they have become board members and their work has been recognized at various awards around the world. The highlights being, winning AMV’s first ever white pencil, winning the UK’s first ever Green Pencil at The One Show, 2 Grand Prix at Cannes and taking home the Prestigious trophy in Graphics category at The Design Museum’s Designs of the year 2018. Mike and Dal have also had the pleasure of working alongside Al Gore and David Attenborough to name a few to bring the Trash Isles campaign to life.
