Then, Jeff travels to Washington State to connect with the endangered pygmy rabbit and works alongside conservationists fighting to protect these amazing animals and the ecosystem where they live. Grace unexpectedly became the primary caregiver for her grandparents at a young age. Her talk explores the importance of preparation and support to help transform the often-arduous caregiving journey into a meaningful and fulfilling experience. Passionate about social impact, she founded Agewhale, a start-up to transform elderly care through innovative solutions. From Grace’s first-hand experience, she offers valuable guidance for navigating the often overlooked yet inevitable part of end of life. After graduating in Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong, Grace joined an ambitious social enterprise, Fair Employment Agency, with the mission to end the forced labor of migrant domestic workers. At 26, she stepped into the role of General Manager to lead the organization through the turbulent 3-year COVID-19 pandemic. Raised by her grandparents, she has always had a special connection with older adults. Through providing care to her grandparents in their final years, she has firsthand experience of the challenges faced by family caregivers. Earlier this year, she founded Agewhale, a start-up to transform elderly care through innovative solutions. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is a familiar mantra, however, efforts to help the environment have been primarily focused on recycling. Recycling, although beneficial, comes with its own carbon footprint. Siva Visvesvaran wants us to promote ways to rethink what we do with our waste and find creative ways to reduce and reuse. Siva develops new solutions to existing environmental problems. He has developed numerous innovations to improve everyday recycling including the Linear Water Storage system for his school, which enables rainwater to be stored in a fraction of the space usually required. Siva is currently studying electrical engineering, and hopes it will allow him to deliver more sustainable and affordable sources of energy to developing countries. In addition, he is the co-founder of a social enterprise called Project Paplet. The organization set up a ‘Reuse Initiative’ which takes paper already used on one side and turns it into booklets. The booklets are donated to 50 refugee schools throughout Malaysia through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Since its launch in 2016, it has saved around 5 tons of paper. Siva is also an associate fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society and one of the 60 Queen’s Young Leader of 2018 bestowed by HM Queen Elizabeth II. The average person has a misguided perception of climate change. We are oblivious to the reality of the dire condition our Earth is in. What is even more frightening is the inaction of individuals in power: governments and big corporations. “The need of the hour is not for people to know about the problem, it’s for them to understand the problem.” Mr. Abhiir Bhalla implores that awareness alone is no longer the requirement. We need to take action. He calls for the adoption of simple measures that we as global citizens must take to alleviate our impact on the Earth. Abhiir Bhalla is a dynamic individual. Tired of enduring the high air pollution levels in his hometown Delhi, he began his journey as a young environmentalist making waves around the world. He works as the Director of Operations and Community Engagement at Care for Air, a non-profit organization working on air pollution. He has been named ‘Friend of The Tiger’ by the National Tiger Conservation Authority of India. Recently, he also represented India as one of the five international youth environmentalists chosen from around the world to interact with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and Sir David Attenborough on BBC World News and BBC World Service. It must be based on creative rather than memorizing. Practical or Visualize education must be promoted. It is time that India began viewing school education as a critical strategic investment and gave it the status of a vital infrastructure project. As all in-country efforts have failed, we should go in for a radical overhaul of our educational infrastructure with the help of countries that have an amazing record in providing quality school education — Finland, for instance. We can surely afford to pay for that. By ensuring students get a world-class education over the next few decades, India will be well on its way towards becoming a developed nation sooner than expected. Thus, access, equity, and quality, this is one aspect of education. The second aspect of education is skill development. Thus, skill development, access, equity and quality, these pillars are equally needed in all the three sectors.
