Since the event, The #Cannabis Certification Council has been established representing a merger of Ethical Cannabis Alliance & Organic Cannabis Association. Ashley Preece was named the Exec. Director.

In order to address the current state of the industry, and the need for robust labor and environmental standards, ECA Executive Director Ashley Preece was joined by two outstanding guest presenters. Hear from Laura Day Rivero, who has extensive experience implementing sustainable practices in the cannabis industry, most recently as Operations Director at Yerba Buena, one of the first OLCC licensed cannabis cultivators in Oregon;  Dr. Elizabeth Bennett, Assistant Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Political Economy Program at Lewis & Clark College, as well as a Research Associate at the Center for Fair and Alternative Trade (CFAT) at Colorado State University.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is a familiar mantra, however, efforts to help the environment have been primarily focused on recycling. Recycling, although beneficial, comes with its own carbon footprint. Siva Visvesvaran wants us to promote ways to rethink what we do with our waste and find creative ways to reduce and reuse. Siva develops new solutions to existing environmental problems. He has developed numerous innovations to improve everyday recycling including the Linear Water Storage system for his school, which enables rainwater to be stored in a fraction of the space usually required. Siva is currently studying electrical engineering, and hopes it will allow him to deliver more sustainable and affordable sources of energy to developing countries. In addition, he is the co-founder of a social enterprise called Project Paplet. The organization set up a ‘Reuse Initiative’ which takes paper already used on one side and turns it into booklets. The booklets are donated to 50 refugee schools throughout Malaysia through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Since its launch in 2016, it has saved around 5 tons of paper. Siva is also an associate fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society and one of the 60 Queen’s Young Leader of 2018 bestowed by HM Queen Elizabeth II. In our politically polarized times, we may not always want to interact with those who have different viewpoints from ours. As lobbyists for a bipartisan climate solution, leaving our echo chambers is critical to achieving our mission. In this Braver Angels Town Hall progressives/liberals will hear from a diverse panel of conservatives and learn to appreciate common ground. You will leave with an understanding that bipartisanship is not just a given - it requires conscious effort from all. Dr. Bill Doherty is a Professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota where he directs two centers relevant to today’s presentation: The Minnesota Couples on the Prink Project and The Citizen Professional Center. Following the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, he co-founded Better Angels, a citizen initiative to counteract political polarization and restore the fraying social fabric in American society. Jacob Abel is a spokesperson for RepublicEn.org and a former conservative outreach fellow with Citizens Climate Lobby. In these roles he has lobbied several congressional offices, published multiple op-eds, and appeared on new outlets such BBC, Vice-News, and NowThis. During his time in CCL he worked with chapters to help increase their conservative membership and hosted workshops on how to speak with Republicans about climate change. Steve Saltwick partners with Lynn Heady to catalyze the growth and the impact of the field organization (local Alliances and the 50 States) of Braver Angels. He co-founded the Braver Angel Alliance in Central Texas in 2018. He is a bio-psychologist whose career took a path through high-tech on six continents. He researches the guiding principles of the mammalian brain. He has published in SCIENCE but prefers to dote on his first grandchild and two border collies. Ron is a retired teacher from Denver Public Schools, is an Instructional Technologist and holds a Business BA from Iowa State in Industrial Administration. Ron credits being a Republican to his hero, Frederick Douglass, and he enjoys community service through volunteering, including that with Braver Angels. He also coached football, wrestling, and track for 30 years, and enjoys reading and writing. CCL State Coordinator for California, Elizabeth Fenner joined CCL in 2015 to help further what still seems like breathtakingly effective and fair policy. A teacher and researcher who is passionate about respecting all voices, Elizabeth has worked in and volunteered with schools, libraries, nonprofit organizations and community groups. Bruce Morlan is a co-leader of the CCL Braver Angels Action Team and has been a CCL volunteer since 2015.

He co-founded a Start-Up, wherein they developed a pioneering material from the leftover biomass and was invited to the Buckingham Palace by Her Excellency Queen Elizabeth ll for this achievement. He's the founder & CEO of Craste, a TechStars company, founded on the principle of “maximum efficiency, zero waste” and is a global accelerator. Shubham has received various awards for his initiative. Notably, the BIRAC SoCH Innovation award from Minister of Science & Technology and Rural Innovation Award at National Conference on Social Innovation. He is an alumnus of Pitch at Palace, an organization by Duke of York. He's also the founder and President of Gramiksha, a non profit which works on youth mobilization in the educational settings that he set up at the age of 19. Madeleine Para, President of Citizens' Climate Lobby, kicks off our conference. Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv, leads the Diocese of Lexington and speaks out about the Church’s need to elevate care of creation as one of the core doctrines of the Church and a key pro-life issue. He is the Episcopal Advisor for the Catholic Committee of Appalachia and Bishop President of Pax Christi USA. Bishop Stowe was born in 1966, was ordained a priest in 1995 and appointed the third Bishop of Lexington by Pope Francis in 2015. His studies included the formation program for the Conventual Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Consolation at St. Bonaventure Friary in St. Louis, MO. He received his BA in both philosophy and history at St. Louis University in 1990. He subsequently earned a Masters in Divinity and a Licentiate in Church History from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA.
