Essere sostenibili non vuol dire altro che essere in grado di durare nel tempo. Ma per durare nel tempo bisogna essere capaci di cambiare e di farlo rapidamente. E questo processo si chiama innovazione. La sostenibilità quindi non è solo una questione etica, ma una sorta di spirito di sopravvivenza. Innovare, però, può essere molto faticoso e richiedere tantissime risorse in termini di tempo e denaro. Andrea Geremicca ci spiega quali sono questi fattori e come possiamo fare per aiutare il nostro cervello a superare la fatica di proiettarsi nel futuro. ENG: All that being sustainable means is being able to last. But in order to last, one needs to be able to change, and to do so quickly. This process is called innovation. Sustainability is therefore not only an ethical matter, but also one of survival. Innovating, though, can be very laborious, exacting a vast amount of time and money. Reconciling Ways of Knowing, Dialogue 4: “Two-Eyed Seeing & Beyond” This dialogue originally aired on October 28, 2020 at 8:30 am Pacific / 10:30 am Central / 12:30 pm Atlantic. Mi’kmaq Elder Albert Marshall, Drs. Jesse Popp, Andrea Reid and Deborah McGregor discussed the idea of Etuaptmumk or Two-Eyed Seeing and other related frameworks for understanding across ways of knowing with moderator Jacquie Miller, MA. Etuaptmumk Two-Eyed Seeing is a guiding principle developed by Mi’kmaq Elder Albert Marshall that recognizes that better outcomes are more likely if we bring two or more perspectives into collaboration. Accordingly, Etuaptmumk can also be understood as a gift of multiple perspectives, an insight and framework that could help us do better in many areas of our shared lives, including our relationship with the earth. The guests discussed how Two-Eyed Seeing requires learning together and from each other, and discussed other trans-systemic ways of knowing and understanding, including how the relationship committed to in the Two-Row Wampum can help guide our understanding and collaboration across ways of knowing.

It was these types of questions that left Andrea Stang reeling after her daughter was born in 2015 and she made several big life transitions. She's thinking it was those same questions that led to 4,000 women leaving Wichita. Andrea Stang is a leading change maker in Wichita. Her entrepreneurial journey was sparked from isolation and disillusionment in her 8-5 career. When she noticed that other accomplished women felt similarly, Andrea founded The Hive, a women-focused coworking and community space for entrepreneurs and professionals craving connection. Her mission through The Hive is to promote authentic friendships and actionable support. She loves the magic of meeting someone with an idea in infancy and connecting her to a community that helps her grow it into a success story. Today she's here to share the importance of such a space. We could use bio waste instead of mineral oil to produce plastic. Is this a modern fairy tale or already a reality? In her TEDx Talk, Andrea explains how we are already able to produce plastic from sources like chicory roots or grass and shares her vision & concepts for on-farm biorefineries that help to recycle nutrients in a sustainable way. Andrea Kruse studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg and after having received her Ph.D. at the University of Heidelberg and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KIT today), she became junior group leader and later group leader in Karlsruhe. For her habilitation at the University of Darmstadt, Andrea focused on new concepts for the production of hydrogen from carbohydrates, one of the major components of biomass. Since 2012, Andrea is a professor for conversion technologies of bio-based resources at the University Hohenheim and has, among other research focuses, great interest in the conversion of biomass into basic chemicals and energy carriers. Besides her research efforts and lectures, Andrea is board member of a variety of committees and institutes as e.g. the Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) in Leipzig. Where would you go?” Ema Pasic Reid describes what she and her family experienced as survivors and refugees of the Bosnian War that erupted in the early 1990s. Ema Pasic Reid is a Marketing Manager at New Balance within their North America division. Prior to this role, Ema was an Account Director at Brand Networks, a venture-backed technology startup in the social media space. Ema was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University and, recently, her MBA from Tuck's School of Business.
