Join us for a lively conversation between Mary Power, a leading ecological researcher, and Tom Fleischner, the Institute’s founder, on the role of natural history in inspiring and grounding ecological field study and theoretical advances in the science of ecology. Over several decades, Dr. Power has combined field experiments and long-term, place-based research to study food webs in tropical and temperate rivers, and their linkages to upland and estuarine ecosystems—work that has always been informed by, and infused with, a love of natural history. Mary Power is a Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley and Faculty Director of the Angelo Coast Range Reserve. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Fellow in the California Academy of Sciences, and she has served as president of both the Ecological Society of America and the American Society of Naturalists. Her work was profiled in The Serengeti Rules, a feature film.

As the head of Voiz sustainable development head of China, Keyi introduced the concept of circular economy and “greenwash”, revealing various environmental issues in the contemporary world. By showcasing her own experience at Voiz, Keyi also vividly presented her view of sustainable development and educated the audience about how everyone can be part of that future. As a student of the University of Cambridge majoring in Land Economy, she is currently the head of Voiz Sustainable Development China and the vice president of the Cambridge Consulting Society. She also founded the Cambridge Science and Technology Innovation Society and the Cambridge Business Society. She has a diversified professional background, covering economy, environment, finance, law and other dimensions. Meanwhile, she also has a wide variety of interests -- community welfare, hiking, and urban construction. She also stood out from more than 2,000 competitors and got the internship opportunity at the Bank of England in her freshman year.
