He studies natural and human “fingerprints” in observed climate records. His early research contributed to the historic 1995 conclusion of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: “the balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate”. He served as lead author of a key chapter of that report. Since 1995, Ben has identified human fingerprints in atmospheric temperature and water vapor, ocean heat content, sea surface temperature in hurricane formation regions, and many other climate variables. Education Ben holds a doctorate in Climatology from the University of East Anglia, England. After completing his Ph.D. in 1987, he spent five years at the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany, where he worked on developing and applying climate fingerprint methods. Ben joined Lawrence Livermore in 1992. Other information Ben has received a number of awards for his research. These include a MacArthur Fellowship (1998), membership in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (2011), and the Procter Prize (2019). The most significant awards are the friendships he has made during his career. In addition to his research, he cares deeply about the communication of climate science to a wide range of audiences. He writes for the Scientific American blog and has appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers”. Together with Chip Duncan and Dr. Hernando Garzon, Ben is a member of “The Three Tenors of Climate Change”. The Tenors are devoted to the task of improving public understanding of the science and impacts of human-caused climate change. In his spare time, Ben is an avid rock-climber and mountaineer.

The world's access to clean water is at a tipping point. Increasing pollution has degraded our freshwater aquifers and coastal aquatic ecosystems. As many as 63 million people were exposed to potentially unsafe water more than once during the past decade. While many people have heard about the issues in Flint and Newark, 25% of Americans drink water from systems that don't meet current water safety regulations. To address the water scarcity issue, Bryan Eagle discusses the actionable ways in which we can start re-using our wastewater for potable and non-potable uses and find more economical ways to desalinate ocean water. Bryan Eagle is CEO of Glanris, a manufacturer of sustainable, low-cost water filtration media from rice hulls. He founded his first company, Skywire in 1993. Skywire designed, developed the first intelligent vending platform, and it is still in use today on millions of machines worldwide. Prior to Skywire, Eagle was a member of the team that created and launched the Discovery Channel, and he was one of the original shareholders. Eagle holds a Bachelor of Art from the University of Virginia and a Master’s in Business Administration from Columbia University. Using public monies to reduce carbon footprint, practice energy conservation, and raise the environmental awareness among citizens in Ireland. €9 billion is spent by the public sector on goods and services annually in Ireland! Dublin fireman Neil McCabe showed how with a little ingenuity, this money could result in environmentally friendly buildings and huge cost savings to the public sector but will local authorities and the government take notice.

Thats €100bn in spending in the next 10 years, shouldnt that money be spend on local, environmentally sound, clean products and services?   Moving to a green economy is a low carbon economy.

It would save money and create jobs, so whats stopping us.

Hosted by Duncan Steward, this video explores whats wrong with the water supply in Ireland?  In parts of Roscommon, residents live under ongoing 'boil' notices to protect themselves from water contaminants. In Dublin last October, the capital faced into water shortages as the biggest web summit in the world hit town.

Meanwhile in Kilmeena national school in Mayo, students under the guidance of their principal Mickey Carney show understanding beyond their years when it comes to their water supply.
Its now the children who are giving the lessons and leading the way in protecting the most precious of all our natural resources.
